Day Trip Info and FAQ's

Get Outside Louisville!

The Louisville and Southern Indiana area is abundant with natural beauty and offers a multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities. Whether you are visiting the Louisville area or already live here, we welcome you and invite you to join us as we get outside and enjoy these local treasures. Green Earth Outdoors offers a variety of exciting Day Trips year around. Our fun-filled Day Trips are suitable for individuals, families, youth organizations and private groups.

To make it easier and affordable to participate, we only require a minimum of three participants for each trip. Day Trips range in price from $45-$75 per person and are noted in each Day Trip description. If you have a party of less than three, we can still accommodate your request, but per-person fees will be prorated commensurate with the number of people in your party.

Each Day Trip includes roundtrip transportation from your residence, your Louisville area hotel, or other suitable location; any required equipment; any admissions; snacks, lunch and beverages; and a professional wilderness guide who provides natural and historical interpretation. Trips typically begin around 8:30 am and are complete by 5:00 pm.

Day Trips are scheduled as requested, subject to prior scheduling of guides. For this reason, we encourage you to schedule your Day Trip as early as possible by completing a Custom Inquiry Form. You can also check availability of dates and register for a Day Trip by calling our office at 502-475-7445 Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST.

Day Trips Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my Day Trip last?

Day Trips typically begin between 8:30-9:00am and last until 4:30-5:00pm when we return you to your downtown hotel or other suitable location. Other hours can usually be accommodated.

What do I need to bring and wear?

You should wear sturdy hiking shoes or walking shoes suitable for the outdoors and comfortable clothing appropriate for the season. In cooler weather or on cave trips, you should also have an extra upper body clothing layer (fleece or sweater). We also recommend sunglasses, camera, daypack and rain jacket if you have them. We can provide day packs and rain gear if needed. For canoe trips, you should wear clothes and footwear that can get wet along with a dry change of clothes for after the trip. We provide everything else. Depending on the Day Trip selected, season, and weather forecast, we will confirm with you what is best to wear prior to your departure.

What is included in the Day Trip fee?

All Day Trips are turnkey and include roundtrip transportation from downtown Louisville, any group equipment, guide(s) who provide natural and historical interpretation, any admissions, snacks and beverages, and a lunch featuring locally grown, fresh ingredients whenever possible. Dietary preferences can generally be accommodated. Trip leaders will also have available binoculars, field guides, some extra rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellant and a variety of other comfort items.

Do I need to have prior experience to participate in a Day Trip?

As long as you are comfortable walking and are reasonably fit, most can usually participate in the hiking, canoeing or caving trips with ease. Less walking is involved in the nature walks and wildlife viewing involves very little physical activity. If you have specific questions about your ability to participate, please contact us by phone at 502-475-7445.

What if I select a hike or canoe trip and it becomes too difficult for me to continue?

Prior to the hike or canoe trip, your guide will discuss the route and other options should it become necessary. If you feel you may not be able to complete the route being offered, please inform your guide and he or she will make a decision to change the route or shorten the hike in the best interest of the group. For the courtesy of the group, please try to select a trip that is within your capability to complete. If you are unsure or have questions, please call our office at 502-475-7445.

Are there any special requirements or limitations?

Patrons should be comfortable walking on trails, some with hills and carrying a day pack. Trails may be muddy and slippery if wet. Younger children should be accustomed to hiking or taking long walks. For canoe trips, participants should be comfortable in and around water.

Will restrooms be available?

Restrooms are generally available before and after each activity. During the trip, if you need to go, it may be necessary to go in nature. Your guide will explain to the group the proper method for doing this if does become necessary and will have on hand the necessities required. Your privacy and comfort is our primary concern.

Will a trip be cancelled for inclement weather or other conditions?

Generally, we run trips rain or shine. Trip guides review weather and trail conditions each evening and the morning of prior to departure. Each guide reserves the right to alter or cancel a trip if conditions warrant. If road conditions become hazardous, we may also cancel a trip. For trips cancelled by Green Earth Outdoors prior to departure, patrons will receive a full refund. Once a trip begins, no refunds are given.
