Zaleski Backpack Trail, Ohio
Situated within Ohio’s second largest state forest, this 23.5-mile trail offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. Along the trail we will see remnants of years gone by from abandoned roads used by settlers, an old mining town, and a railroad complete with ghosts – now all swallowed up by nature- except the ghosts perhaps. The terrain is rolling surrounded by native Ohio hardwoods with some minor hills, but the character of the landscape makes this trip a lot of fun. This trail is great for intermediate backpackers, beginners looking for more of a challenge and those who like places with an interesting past.

Adventure Hiking Trail, Indiana
The 27-mile Adventure Hiking Trail holds true to its name. The trail travels through every region of Harrison-Crawford State Forest, the state’s largest, between the three waterways it contains. The trail features natural bluffs overlooking the Ohio River, Blue River, and Indian Creek, mixed with the karst landscape of caves and sinkholes, and the diversity and density of native wildlife and vegetation, all enhancing the trail’s character. A natural progression from the Two Lakes Loop Trail, this trip offers a challenging weekend for intermediate backpackers or those wanting to improve their skills. Two sessions available, one in full bloom, the other with fall colors, both incredibly beautiful.

Knobstone Trail, Indiana
The Knobstone Trail is the longest continuous hiking trail in Indiana and the rugged terrain of this 58-mile backcountry hike is often compared to the Appalachian Trail. The trail intermittently follows the crest of the Knobstone Escarpment, rising 500 feet above surrounding forests and farmlands and passing through Clark State Forest, Elk Creek Public Fishing Area, and Jackson-Washington State Forest. A challenging and wonderful experience for those who want to move beyond weekend backpacking and enjoy the fall colors at their peak. This trip is autumn backpacking at its best.
