Meet Your Guides and Facilitators
Why a Personal Guide or Facilitator?
There are lots of reasons for utilizing a personal guide or facilitator. Probably the best reason is so you get the most out of your outdoor experience. Using a personal guide or facilitator saves time, money and natural resources and allows you to fully enjoy the experience or derive the most benefit from the training. Your personal guide has a passion for the outdoors and sharing it with others and knows the success of any guide business is based on their reputation.
Each of our guides spend over 140 days a year in the backcountry and nearly another 50 days a year either providing training or receiving training to continually add value to your experience. A personal guide will take the time in advance to learn about your goals and structure your trip to meet those goals. A guide allows for your family or group to make the most of your time together during the trip without sacrificing time with details and logistics.
If you are visiting a new destination, your guide will make sure you get to see and do the best it has to offer. A guide knows the better seasons, routes, campsites, and other local hidden treasures that make the trip even more special.
Guides are also excellent teachers and take advantage of learning moments whenever possible. If you want to try a new outdoor activity for the first time, a guide will help you learn the skills to be successful. A personal guide will be a knowledgeable and friendly companion who makes a day spent on the trail or on the water a very memorable and pleasant experience.

Rick Tur
Explorer.
Thinker.
EMT.
Guide.

Rick Tur got started in the outdoors at age 5 while family backpacking along a section of the Appalachian Trail and has been mentally outdoors ever since. Whether mountain biking, backpacking or paddling, he is happiest when he is in the backcountry. Over the last 15 years he has spent a significant portion of that backcountry time in the southern Rockies and the high desert of Utah and Colorado. A theoretical mathematician by education (don’t let this scare you, he’s actually a joy to be around), his primary love is in the outdoors and guiding people young and old to areas of the country that he has been so fortunate to spend the better part of his life in. A Wilderness EMT/First Responder and a Leave No Trace Trainer, Rick looks out for both his clients and the environment.
Bett Etenohan
Naturalist.
Environmental Educator.
Conservationist.
Guide.
Bett’s belief in the virtues of experiential education is based on her time at Antioch New England, where she earned a master’s degree in Environmental Studies, enjoying every bit if it! She has been teaching in the great outdoor classroom ever since. From the hills of New Hampshire to the Cumberland Plateau, the forests of Virginia to the Ohio River Valley, she has introduced thousands of children to the wonders of nature through Environmental Education Centers. Recently retired after 17 years as Naturalist at the Falls of the Ohio State Park, she is very pleased to continue one of her favorite activities: introducing folks to the unique Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area, a little known “wilderness” within sight of downtown Louisville! Known for its 400 million year old fossils, the area is also a joy to paddle and explore.
