Backpacking: Red River Gorge
One of the most popular destinations in the Midwest, the Red River Gorge is a unique and scenic natural area located inside the Daniel Boone National Forest. Reserved as the Red River Gorge Geological Area, an area of around 44 square miles, it has been designated a National Natural Landmark. This intricate canyon system features an abundance of high sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls, and natural bridges. There are more than 100 natural sandstone arches in Red River Gorge. With an abundance of trail options, each trip is tailored to your inclination for a balanced blend of adventure and scenic beauty.
