Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics
The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide. Leave No Trace Awareness Workshop
An Awareness Workshop is any formal Leave No Trace presentation that is one-day or less in length. These presentations can include a wide variety of programs ranging from a 30-minute presentation to a day-long workshop. Experiential-based training, in an outdoor setting is preferred. These workshops are designed for educators, children, college students, Girl Scouts, outdoor professionals, Boy Scouts, trail crews, hiking club members and others interested in Leave No Trace skills and ethics. WHEN: Saturday/Sunday, June 5-6, 2010 (Overnight)
WHERE: Jefferson Memorial Forest, Louisville, Kentucky
DESCRIPTION: Participants will receive introductory training in the skills and ethics of Leave No Trace and the opportunity to practice them on an overnight camping trip. Workshop topics include the underlying ethics and seven principles of Leave No Trace.
WORKSHOP TIMES: The course begins with registration and camp set up at 1:00 pm on Saturday with the program starting at 2:00 pm. The course will conclude no later than 11:00 am Sunday.
WHO: Any individual interested in learning and practicing the 7 Principles Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics to minimize their impact. Typical attendees include hikers, campers, paddlers, Scouts and leaders, outdoor groups/clubs members, and specialty outdoor retail associates.
GEAR: Participants need to bring their own personal camping equipment (a list is provided upon registration). Some personal equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and backpacks are available for rent at a 25% discount if you don’t have your own. Leave No Trace Trainer Course
The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.

DESCRIPTION: This course will allow participants to learn and practice in an outdoor setting the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace and prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers from Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. We will use the beautiful Harry S. Frazier Jr. Scout Reservation (Hiking courses) and Harrison-Crawford State Forest (Canoeing course) as an outdoor classroom. The training includes 16 hours of instruction and overnight camping onsite. The first night camping (Friday) will be conducted in a front-country setting and the second night camping (Saturday) will be conducted in a backcountry setting. Participants will need to hike (hiking courses) or paddle (canoeing course) to the backcountry site. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will also be required to lead a 10-15 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic. Further details and guidance will be provided upon registration. These courses are presented by Green Earth Outdoors, an affiliated partner and approved training provider for Leave No Trace Trainer Courses for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.

WHO: Any individual interested in learning and practicing the 7 Principles Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics and teaching them to others or general outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn the skills needed to minimize their impact. Typical attendees include backpackers, paddlers, Scouts, Venturers, Scout leaders, camp counselors, guides, outdoor groups/clubs, specialty outdoor retail associates and trip leaders. Open to the public.
COST: Per individual, the fee is $89.00 for Options A and C and $95.00 for Option D (hiking) or $175.00 for Option B (canoeing). Cost covers food, group equipment, camp fees, permit fees, facility usage, course equipment, handouts, training materials, Trainer lapel pin, Trainer patch, extensive educational support, and a very comprehensive LNT Trainer’s supply package (a $60 value) to conduct your own Leave No Trace Awareness courses. For Option B (canoeing) the fee also covers permit fees, canoes, canoe transport, paddles, and PFD’s. YOUTH SPECIFIC SESSIONS: To support the addition of Leave No Trace elements to the Boy Scouts of America’s advancement program and the addition of the youth position of responsibility Leave No Trace Trainer, we are offering youth (at least age 14 but under age 18) specific sessions during Options A and C. These sessions will be conducted in conjunction with the adult sessions but the youth will have separate camping arrangements and separate trained Adult Scouter leadership in compliance with the BSA’s Two-Deep Leadership and Youth Protection policies. Partial tuition scholarships for youth are available to attend this training.

Leave No Trace Master Educator Course
A Master Educator course is typically five days in length and designed for people who are actively teaching others backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public. This valuable training is recognized throughout the world by the outdoor industry and land management agencies. Successful graduates of the Master Educator course have the ability to train others in Leave No Trace skills and ethics, and can offer Leave No Trace Trainer courses and Awareness Workshops. Summer Camp Staff/Guide Training
Green Earth Outdoors offers a comprehensive summer camp counselor/guide training program that will give your camp leaders the skills and knowledge to safely and successfully lead others into the wild. Offered in either a weeklong format (Mon-Sat) or a two-weekend format (Fri-Sun x 2) the standard training offers three modules which include certification in Wilderness First Aid, Leave No Trace Trainer, and Outdoor Leadership. The training is conducted at your camp and the standard modules may be substituted or combined with any of the Outdoor Skill Instruction modules below. Outdoor Leadership
Green Earth Outdoors offers leadership training for outdoor leaders as a summer camp staff/guide training module or as a stand alone program. This program is designed to give those who lead trips in the outdoors the skills and knowledge to provide for a safe adventure, keeping the group members engaged, and providing learning and growth opportunities for the ones they lead. Topics include trip planning, communication, risk management/outdoor hazards, decision making, group dynamics, conflict resolution, problem solving, environmental issues, emergency procedures, wilderness navigation, food planning and preparation, equipment and clothing, health and safety, and basic camping skills, teaching skills to others and any other current topics warranting discussion.
This program is offered in a condensed two-day version or the complete four-day version. Conducted at your site for groups of 4 or more, this training can be combined with any of the Outdoor Skills Instruction modules below. Wilderness First Aid
Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one—and maybe even save a life.
Jefferson Memorial Forest, in partnership with Green Earth Outdoors and SOLO Schools, is offering a Wilderness First Aid certification course. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) creates a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Started by SOLO as the “Mountain/Woods First Aid” course in 1975, and continually updated and improved since that time, this was the first course of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based.

WHO: The WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. It also meets the ACA and BSA guidelines.
COST: $165.00 per individual. Fee covers instruction, class materials, equipment, handouts, and textbook.
